Are Invasive Species Something to Care About?
Several types of invasive plant species have spread throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula over the years. They disturb the peacefulness of our shorelines, displace native plants, and invade our yards. Invasives need to be removed from our area as soon as possible because they take over our land and drive away the valuable native plants that help our ecosystem. Meanwhile, invasives are not doing anything to benefit our environment. We would love to see the beauty of the Lake Superior shoreline maintained over the years by educating the next generation on the importance of native plants and the disadvantages of invasive species.
